What is Stud Poker?
What is stud poker? In stud poker the players are dealt with two face down hole cards and one face up exposed card, initially. Of all players who are dealt, the player who has the lowest number in the exposed card is forced to make the little bet in the first round. The pot is rotated clockwise and each player either fold or place their buy-ins based on the strength of their cards.
After the first round of betting is complete, each player is dealt with a fourth exposed card called the “fourth street”, followed by betting. Then a fifth exposed card called the “fifth street” is dealt followed by betting. After this the sixth exposed card called the “sixth street” is dealt followed by betting Then at last the “seventh street” or seventh stud card is dealt which is an unexposed card, followed by betting.
So for every fourth, fifth, or sixth card, a betting round is initiated by the person who has the highest poker value.
The player who has the “best 5 cards” wins the game after the seventh card is dealt. If two players have similar ranking “best 5 cards” the pot is divided between the two! There are several other variations of stud poker; this is just a basic idea of the game.
